A week of “In Progress” Projects - #1 is “Pretty Petals”
This week - the second week of July - I’m planning on showing you a project I’ve started - a different project every day, so you can see how far along I am.
I may do this to remind myself, or maybe because when I just show you a finished project, you may think I just “did it” in one day or maybe two. That isn’t usually the case. Often a project has been in the works for several days or even longer - and I’ve just not shared the fact that I’ve been working on it.
So I thought this week I’d share for the next 6 days a project that is “in the works”. This way it is a bit more of a reality check and sharing progress.
The first one - Pretty Petals
This is a Lori Holt design that was sent in a subscription box that I’m not a part of. However, when I saw the pattern, it is really quite simple. At the time of seeing it, I liked it, so I decided to just draw it up on my own Electric Quilt program and make it up. It is very similar to the pattern that I made here that was a Moda pattern. It’s similar to this one. If you look at this quilt, you can see the blocks - they are made up of a 4 patch in each corner and a sashing strip and a central cornerstone.
This block looks like this:
You can see with this, that it is the same principle except that instead of a pieced four patch, the pieces in the corners are one block with some easy corner triangles as Lori Holt/Edyta Sitar/Corey Yoder call them. Jenny Doan calls them snowballed corners.
I actually started this one in the spring - or actually still winter when we were traveling in Indiana. I carried it over in my suitcase and have been dabbling at it every now and again. I have decided it really is time to finish this one up.
I now have all 35 blocks made and laid it out on my living room floor. I’m hoping my son and DIL can come over tomorrow and after church take a look at the layout and move blocks around so the colors are more even. It is a big Sudoku puzzle.
Anyway, that’s where I am on this one. These are all Lori Holt fabrics EXCEPT for the green cornerstones and sepals - at the base of the petals.
The white isn’t one of Lori’s fabrics either - it is just a regular slightly off white blender with some tiny stars in it. We’ll see how much I have left after putting the top together. That will make my decision about the final borders. It all depends on how much I have leftover at that point.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
