Garden Harvest....It's time!

We started bringing in the harvest from the garden a while ago now.

It’s more or less trickling in. Not exactly a bumper year.

But it happens like that from time to time.

This year our weather has just been weird. Very strange.

It was cool and dry in May. My corn didn’t come up like I wanted.

My pumpkins wouldn’t come up when I planted them inside the house as it was too cool. Then, when I put them out in the garden, it was cool there as well, so they did grow, but not as I had hoped.

My beans did okay but I planted them in a shady area - and they prefer sun. I knew that. We only ate from them a couple of times.

The zucchini needed more fertilizer and I planted them too close to the pumpkins. I had a time getting to them once the pumpkin plants started invading.

I let the weeds take over the first planting of corn and the mini pumpkins. I was just hoping for the best.

My pumpkin plants gave me only one or two per plant - as I didn’t prepare the soil as I should have.

Things got busy in July and I just didn’t do it.

Sunflowers have exceeded expectations especially considering the amount of work I put into them! Seriously.

The corn is delicious, however! I feel bad it has taken so long to get some! So far we’ve only eaten a couple of times but hopefully tomorrow I can have some more.

Tomatoes - I’m cooking them up and putting the sauce into the freezer to be used at a later date, maybe for lasagna - maybe spaghetti? Not sure yet.

So this year has been not quite a flop for the garden, but there are some things that were almost a compelete nothing.

But otherwise, I am still getting things from the garden even now. We’ll see. I will be getting some more corn here in the next frew days - at least until we get a frost.

Here’s hoping next year will be better. I know I can do better! I need to spend more time working on the garden - fertilizing, wedding, etc. However, I had way better success with tomatoes this year than I remember - certainly better than in recent past!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
