"Mixed Bag" - quilt top finished in the Stephanie Slewinski series of quilts using her fabrics
I wanted to use the bonus triangles from this quilt.
I used the the bonus triangles to make a square and then added more of the tea stain to the edges, trimmed it down to 8.5” square and added 2.5” x4.5” strips around it.
I then put navy sashing in between and then bordered around it with green and burgundy to so I could make an even round using 6.5” cut squares with some easy corner triangles or snowballed corners.
Whew.
Then I added another green border around it to finish off the top.
I used that difficult to use stripe sort of for the one border.
The only two fabrics in this top that are not part of this line of fabrics are the green border fabrics and the tea stain that was used in the middle of the quilt.
I simply didn’t have enough of any one fabric to do what the green does in the design.
So this is now the next top in the series.
I am really DOWN to just a bit of fabrics. Really. I am getting excited. Very, very.
I am still working on that other top that is very very heavy with the piecing— every day, in fact, trying to get the two blocks made. I need 66 of each block, so it’s no small feat.
I did get all the pieces cut out for the “intense” pieced blocks, so this picture reflects that.
As soon as I get all the components made from that top - I’ll be able to see what I have left and take a hard look at the fabrics. I will be happy to put what remains on my shelves and the scraps into scraps and go on.
However, I’m really trying to whittle it down so there is very little left.
In fact, let me get a picture of what I have left and show you. Maybe that will help you see. Not long ago that whole bin was full to overflowing. And truthfully, I think I started with about 2 of those bins full of yardage as I didn’t even attempt to put things into the bins til I had at least a couple of tops made.
I won’t be surprised if once I clean up my fabric storage room (it’s kind of a mess and I’ve got my son and family coming in August so I need it cleaned up) if I find the remaining of one of the greens I had as it seems like I’ve used up all I had and I should still have more, lying around somewhere.
Maybe it’s in Florida? shrug.
Anyway, it’s been fun.
I have to say each of the tops is different and I’ve enjoyed making each of them. When you make a large top, there is always something that might get tedious.
Usually I have multiple things going on at once, so it keeps me going as I move on to something else that is more interesting while doing a minimum with the thing that is sort of boring.
This is where I am in this group of tops from all that Stephanie Slewinski fabrics. All of these are somewhere in the vicinity of 90”-100” wide x 95-100” long.
Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey.
