“Granny Square Strips” top finished
I did finally finish this top. It didn’t take forever, either.
In the past blog posts, I called it an “Almost Granny Square” top. In the end, because I’ve called this block a Granny Square block a Granny Square, I decided to just go along and call it this again.
Because it is made in Strips, I am simply calling it “Granny Square Strips”.
In the end, I made 64 blocks, but four of the blocks were left in two pieces each which were then split into the top and bottom piece on every other row. I think this would also be a beautiful quilt in a small block using the 1.5” squares, but I’m not up to that right now. But, I do so love a granny square. I just haven’t finished quilting my other top yet that uses the small 1.5” cut squares, so I’m not starting another one yet.
Here’s the top.
To help you understand how this one was put together - here it is with the first two strips finished.
I simply put the rows together with every other row being a half drop block. In the end, I did put a cream border around the outside. The final result is 88”x100” or so. I wanted it to be a queen size quilt.
So what do I think of it? Well, like all my Granny Square quilts, I love it!
My goal for this particular top was for happy colors. I think in a few places I could have done better. I did pull from my 2” strips bags for many of the pieces so I was very happy to end up with such a pretty top. I do like the finished project.
This is going as number 83 in my 2” strips project.
I have not written the pattern yet, but will get it done and put it on the website at a future time. By the time I get it quilted and shown here, I will put it up on the site.
But let me share with you all of my Granny Square quilts. I will say that I think these are all the ones I’ve made. I’ve probably forgotten a couple. Maybe I should make a file folder with them in it so I don’t have to go finding them in each of the folders.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
