Another Work in Progress - I started Elizabeth Hartman's "Outdoors" pattern

I fell in love with this pattern when I saw it in videos last year at Houston Market. Yes, I did.

Then I convinced my sister to buy it - so I could get a copy. :)

I think the others were sold in the store as I don’t see them on the website.

I’m not using her official fabrics as I didn’t have them. However, I dug around in my stash so I could approximate the colors she used.

I really love this pattern - I love the look. I think my husband will absolutely love it as well. I may end up using it on the bed in the girls’ room (one of the guest rooms - the one I cleaned up and holds most of my quilts).

Now that I’ve been working with the pattern, this one isn’t for the weak.

This quilt is interesting as with the pattern, you can make a small one, or using the small pattern, but making 4 of each block, you can make the bigger quilt. I”m making the bigger one, of course. I want it for a queen size bed, so when I’m done, for better or worse, I am going to be adding 2 borders to make it the size I need for a bed. I have no need for a small quilt - as our wall space is quite limited.

Here are the first blocks I’ve gotten done. I’m about half done at this point. The blocks are interesting to make. They aren’t the fastest, however. I did find these star blocks were possibly the fastest blocks I made from this group. There are a lot of stitch and flip pieces in many of these blocks!

The very first block I attempted to make was the mushroom block!

I’ve enjoyed learning some new techniques. Learning new styles/techniques is one of the reasons I love making this kind of quilt - not just another one that is the type I normally make. I already know how to make the simple block types.

Elizabeth Hartman has a very distinct style - and I actually love it! I’ve not made any of her quilt patterns, because I never had any of them, but I’ve made so many scrappy types, I’m kind of ready to expand my own abilities, and this is one way I can do that. Making different people’s patterns actually helps my own skills to improve and expand my own creativity.

So far, in our own store, we only have three. I’ll link them here now. If you click on the picture, it will take you to the patterns we have.

I will admit that I’d love to make the flamingo one - :)

This particular pattern calls for 14 blocks - and this is showing 7 of them. I’ll be sharing more later.

I actually own one other of Elizabeth’s patterns— maybe two, but this is the first one I’ve made. We’ll see what else I end up making. I’m sure it won’t be the last one I do!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
