I Planted a Garden this Year!

Last year I took the summer off, but this year I decided to go back out to the garden and plant again.

What did I plant this year?

I have:

Tomatoes:

Zucchini - a whole row of the plants - most are still quite small

Purple/Green beans (they grow as purple but when put in water, they turn green):

Pumpkins

Corn: I planted the first ones a bit ago but they didn’t come up well. I need to weed the area and search for the corn. The difference between corn and grass is sometimes not obvious so I have to weed with complete care in this area.

I planted another 11 rows - 6 last Saturday and 5 on Monday. They aren’t big rows but I had bought 9 packs of corn seed, so I wanted to use it all up.

You can see corn in the center of the picture. Pretty much anything else you see is grass or weeds.

Sunflowers: (not up yet)

And this is a bit later coming this year due to the fact that our spring was cool quite late. I also planted and it was so dry, in spite of the fact that I watered quite a bit, I had poor germination. So I Replanted another 11 rows! :) (Not terribly long rows)

So, I’ve been spending some time outside working on this situation.

I will get those weeds cleared out soon.

I do have some flowers as well.

I put some in pots in the back patio area and some in my cement ring.

Most of the yellow perennials are slow this year due to the cool and dry spring we had. I’ve set up some better watering for them so maybe they can catch up and be normal in spite of a slow start.

This particular group of flowers were volunteers - spread by birds, probably, or the wind, and since they are growing where I already have flowers, why not?

And now you know.

That’s my garden. Everything seems so behind, but July is often a very big “growing month”, so we’ll have to see.

I do know my corn will not be “knee high by the fourth of July”. Not at all. I’ll be happy if it is a few inches high - all that corn that I planted just in the past few days, that is. The other corn is so sparse…I’m actually pretty sad about the germination rate.

If you like to garden and also to quilt, check out our “floral—” section of the website fabrics and also “plants—”. We have some beauties. :)
