Catching Up on my Quilting Things while Traveling Doings
I suppose I need to let you know a few of the quilty related things we’ve been doing.
I have been sewing - I worked on a simple quilt that included putting some sashing between some blocks that were already printed.
I worked on a charm quilt for Rachael. There will be 12 of them. This was number 9. I hope to finish the last three in April when I get back to Florida.
I began cutting for another go around with Town Square. I realized how much I really liked that quilt and that maybe I do want my own. (I gave mine away.)
Some things I found because I wanted Rachael to see and possibly start carrying if she thinks they are worth it.
Naturally we’ve been in a few churches with my husband presenting the ministry - but that’s not necessarily quilting related. :)
Then we visited several quilt shops. I’ve picked up some patterns I’ve been wanting to get. Some I know I could get Rachael to get but in many cases, it all involves setting up a new account, having to buy a certain minimum amount, etc. and that is often just a pain - and just for me. So I’ve been picking up a few patterns that I’ve been drawn to.
Mostly I just brought fabric with me, but I’ve been going through the background fabric faster than I thought.
So, today we stopped at a Goodwill and I did pick up two sheets which I can use as background. I am having second thoughts about the off white sheet, however, as it is a super nice sheet, and made of Egyptian cotton. I may keep it as a sheet. I’ll check the size and make a final decision before starting to cut it up. It’s a bit heavier than I’m used to and feels absolutely wonderful. I may leave it as a sheet if it is a king or queen size fitted bottom sheet. It’s a fitted bottom sheet - just not sure what size yet.
I’ve been in a couple of Joann Fabrics to see what the noise is all about there. No, I didn’t buy any fabric, but did pick up two sewing patterns.
I also did pick up a few yards of Lori Holt background in one shop. I know Rachael has plenty in Florida, but I’m not in Florida, so I thought I’d support another shop.
Then, of course, I’ve been working on that Tulip Patch Quilt top. I’m off to starting work on another one and hope to make some king sized pillowcases for my son and his wife, as well, to go with the quilt that is being quilted currently for them!
So, that’s it, really. I’ve been very busy, trying to get some much wanted sewing done. I’ve really been limited on how much I could do there in FL so this has been a wonderful refreshment for me to be able to do so.
Oh, I also have been working on my English Cottages BOM that I bought from Shabby Fabrics last year. I now have all the cottages fused down and need to start the buttonhole stitches down and putting the blocks together. I have the finishing part so I could theoretically put this top together if I can get the cottages all sewn down. It’s not a BOM that anyone can get anymore, so I won’t make a big deal out of it, but I bought into it last year when I found them on line.
So, it’s been busy!
When I get into a good position, I’ll show each of these projects in more detail and with lots of photos.
Oh, and I forgot- I brought all the scraps I’d been making while in FL with me and I’ve been chopping them into 2.5” squares and 1.5”x2.5” rectangles with even 1.5” squares. :) So there’s that. I hope to finish that in the next couple of days. So, any leftovers you see are smaller than I can cut a 1.5”x1.5” square from.
Here’s a photo of the scraps I’ve been creating from those. I’m trying to save them as a lady in FL with a martial arts school is asking for fabric scraps for making punching bags.
I hope you’ve had time to sew lately!
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
