"Snazzy Jazzy Wonky Stars" top finished
I went on a roll and just wanted this one done. I only actively work on about 3 or 4 quilt tops at once and really only one or two that I tend to focus on. I mean, I do have several boxes filled with tops that are in various stages, but I don’t really like working on more than 3 or 4 at once.
So, once I saw how nice this one was when it was half way done, I just wanted it done already. I was thrilled with the look of the color wash effect by having the colors go up diagonally - just like we’ve used on a lot of quilts.
I thought if I worked very hard on it for another day or so that maybe I could finish it up.
And so I did that.
As I mentioned before, I used these colors and in this order - red-orange-yellow-green-teal-blue-aqua-lt pink-dark pink.
Here is the top.
Yes, I really like it!
The top finishes at 87”x102” so that’s a queen size quilt top - if you don’t need the deep overhang on the edges.
I did make the stars wonky, as I mentioned last time I wrote about this top when it was about halfway done.
I used white based fabrics for the sashing strips and colorful squares cut at 2.5” which were directly tied to the colors of the stars that were featured.
I will use a variety of colors for the binding-probably making a binding using all the colors in the order in which the fabrics are presented.
A bit closer up. I kind of went “too light” on the lt. pink. Oh well. I’m leaving the very light ones in spite of that. It makes your eye go to the spot where you know a star is supposed to be and then you say, “Oh, I see you!” when you find the lt pink star.
In case you are wondering, I did use a LOT of that light fabric in this. It took 310 of those 2.5”x6.5” strips! That was absolutely wonderful as I used fabric that was either in my 2.5” strips, things I had just cut or things I was waiting to cut up into strips. I rifled through my already cut 2.5” squares for the colorful cornerstones. BUT, I was short on teal for those cornerstones, and actually raided my Branching Out box of fabrics which is in my dining room.
But just out of curiousity, let me show you how this would look using purple as the sashing strips. That is beautiful! Everything else was the same with the coloration of the stars and the cornerstones - just that here it is using a purple sashing.
That is just a FYI.
Oh- if you are wondering - I got the inspiration for this quilt from Jessica Dayon from her You Tube channel.
She had a quilt along and I kind of changed some things so this wasn’t identical to what she did - as I made this one larger and I made my blocks wonky and she didn’t really explain how to make her stars - but I’ve made many stars (and made patterns for stars).
Her video is here. Note - I did use scraps for my quilt - not a specific line of fabric.
and her pattern for sale is here if you want it.
I’ll share this once again once the top is finished!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
