"Branching Out" progress

I kind of overdid it on these blocks a couple of weeks ago when I got up to 76 blocks finished. I put it away because I didn’t want to think about these blocks again for a bit. They are pretty intense blocks. At least for me they are.

Then, I thought about them again and decided I was fine with devoting a bunch of time to more.

I’m up to 94 blocks. I’m so close to halfway! I need 200 blocks and now I have 94. I had to stop because that is all of the tree trunks I had made up, when I originally thought the quilt top I wanted to make was 92 trees.

So, once I finished those trunks up, I went ahead and started making more trunks.

I’m kind of a little worried I might run out of the background, but I’ve been eyeing what I have that I can use when or if I do before I get 200 blocks made.

So I’m making 40+ more trunks now. Then when I get those all made, I’ll keep going until I finish up the 200.

Since I am planning on using a spacer block on the sides as in the drawing to the side, I will need some of the background for the side setting triangles in my planned design as well.

If this is the first time you’ve seen this, this is a free pattern by Moda.

Here are now all my blocks. I’m sorry I didn’t take a photo of only the 18 new ones.

So far, each of the fabrics has 2 blocks as I just find it is not a problem to cut out two at a time of each piece.

I don’t know that I actually have 100 different fabrics in these colors, but I’m going to go for it! I’ve just begun to dip into my Lori Holt fabrics and this is probably Lori’s favorite color scheme. I mean, I have lots of greens and blue greens, but I’m trying to keep the fabrics as mostly the color and white or so subtle that you don’t see too much of other colors in the print.

And this is how I am going to lay it out on the floor. I mean, not these particular blocks in this layout but it is this configuration - 10 blocks across on the top row.

I am going with my blue green fabrics and some greens if I think they fit into the color scheme I want.

Once again - here is the blue spruce we have in our garden earlier this spring. It is easy to see the bluish color of the needles AND the green as well. At least I thought it was interesting, so I took a photo. I knew I had this quilt in my mental list at that point.

Obviously the more blue fabrics I have aren’t really all that close to the actual colors shown, but the idea is just a feel - that is what I’m going for.

I don’t know when I will finish this one, but it won’t be right away. I’ll just do 10-16 blocks at at a time, and when I get them done, I get them finished.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
