English Cottages quilt top finished
I am always conflicted about showing you something I make from some other store, but it’s reality - so I am going to share this top with you. I’m not self-centered enough to think “we” are the end all for quilters. In other words, people make things other than what we have to offer.
Including myself.
I bought these BOM (Block of Month) kits from Shabby Fabrics about a year ago now. I actually signed up for three of these house BOM and not just one as I couldn’t decide which one I wanted. None of them are still available. In fact, as of a few months ago, they had a Christmas one I considered signing up for but really didn’t think I wanted to put that much money into a Christmas quilt - so I didn’t sign up for it. Now it is not available either.
Anyway, while on the trip to the northern part of the US, I wanted to finish up the blocks - as I had gotten started, but not finished. The blocks were coming to Florida - to my mom’s house anyway.
I was able to completely finish this top on that trip up north.
I was able to finish getting all the blocks for all three of the BOM, for which I’m thankful.
I did not work on the other two BOM as I had had “enough” at the moment of that kind of piecing. It wasn’t hard at all as they use laser cut fusible applique but it was a bit tedious. There is a of thread changing that takes place and pressing, of course.
I had taken Rachael’s little Brother with me - which worked quite well with the applique. I did use the buttonhole or applique stitch. I can see myself doing one a week on the other ones until I finish them, but not all at once like I did while on that trip.
I took these pictures here at the house in Poland as I didn’t want to take pics where I didn’t have room.
I didn’t press the top before taking the photos, either. These are fresh from the suitcase. :)
I do not foresee ourselves making laser cut BOM anytime in the near future. I think I COULD see it with some cool Polish folk designs, but I haven’t a clue how to go about doing so.
I did enjoy doing this one and think the end result is super nice, if a bit pricey. I do like trying different things, though, and this was one of those fun things I wanted to ‘give a go’.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
