I didn't throw away any fabric scraps for almost 5 months!
Instead, I made this bag and put all my small scraps in it. I almost filled it up - but didn’t quite get it full. I left it in the Sewin’ Shop there in Florida and asked them to fill it up!
Why?
There is a lady who showed up at the store there in Florida and asked us if we ever had scraps. They were making bag to fill punching bags for their students as they have a gym there in Dade City.
I saved all the scraps that were 1.5” or larger as I cut those down in to 1.5” strips or larger - but by putting all those small scraps into this bag, I did not throw away into the trash ANY fabric at all! It was actually amazing.
I did make this bag a bit on the large side - and maybe I could have collected more if I had had time to sew more. But as you know…I was spending a lot of time in the store.
I don’t normally save all these tiny scraps here in Poland - instead, I send them to our fireplace for kindling.
I do not make dog beds or other things like that anymore as they don’t wash any of those things at the shelters. This means that when I did make those in the past, they were a one-time type of thing and I didn’t want to do it again.
Nowadays back here in Poland, I tend to fill up paper bags and when full, I give them to my husband to burn. I have considered making something I’ve seen on You Tube that uses those absolutely tiniest of pieces, but it involves putting all the small pieces in a little bag and sewing them all down. I’m not sure what I would do with it after I made such a thing.
So, for now, I will probaby keep giving the to my husband to burn.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
