Mercantile #2 - The finished quilt
I didn’t finish the rest of the story of this quilt!
Let’s see.
Where was I when I left off with the story?
I had mailed the box to my sister on a Tuesday. It was quite the process to actually send it to the states. Yikes.
I had to find the tariff number - they have it so that an unfinished quilt top is considered fabric - and so it goes with the same number as textiles and since it was all cotton - I put it as all cotton cloth. I know, I know. I had qualms about it because I had some interfacing between the layers of the white circles and the background piece, but what could I do? I could only do the best I could and that was name it as all cotton textiles.
Anyway, I paid for a Fed Ex courier. I didn’t trust any sort of post office at all to get this to my sis in Florida.
So it left my house on Tuesday afternoon.
It arrived in Florida the next week on Tuesday. I am okay with that. It did cost me about $65 or so to ship it, I believe it was. Let me show you the shipping times. I followed it as it left Poland.
It felt like it stayed in Belgium forever! It didn’t. It just felt like it.
The box arrived on Monday at the Quilted Twins office in Dade City, Florida and boy was I relieved!
They were kind enough to take a photo of the box as it arrived or Rachael unrolling it!
They then had to choose a backing and call the long armer that we needed to finish it for us.
Diane came and got the quilt the next day and she graciously sent a picture of the quilted and bound quilt top.
Then Rachael notified the Garden Club and they came and got it! Here are a couple more pictures.
They wanted to display it in October at some function they had, so here is the whole group of ladies who are all with the quilt. It will be displayed for several months until they choose a winner of the quilt. I have no idea if I’ll hear any more about it, but this whole adventure was something that was very unplanned for the year.
I hope they get what they need out of this very busy, very floral quilt!
Let’s not tell them they are holding it sideways, okay? You can tell by that block on the bottom left - it is supposed to be a birthday cake block with the theoretical lights of the candles up and down - not sideways.
Anyway, that’s the rest of the story of this quilt! If, in a few months I hear that they raised enough money to fund their activities for the year from it, that would make me very happy. They did pay the store for the fabric - but I donated my time, effort, skills and shipping for the occasion. I do appreciat our Dade City Garden Club for many things.
Our small church in Florida used to rent the Garden Club building when we first started. :) That’s for starters. They also have a pretty garden there where went for some family pictures. That was nice! :)
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
Oh wait. Now I’ll update the picture in my Lori Holt series of quilts. This is Mercantile #2 - Garden Club version. These quilts were either made using a pattern by Lori Holt and/or her fabrics. For example, the gingham plaid ones I made were not LH fabrics, but I got the pattern from one of her books.
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store here!
