"Fat Quarter Flirt" quilt in low volume prints
Wow. I started this top months ago now. I mean, MONTHS. Let me check when I featured it as a top.
February 10, 2026 I featured it on this blog. Here.
I decided back then to just straight line quilt it keeping the quilting very calm and quiet to go with the theme. I was using my Janome.
But I lost interest. Seriously lost interest. It will be a gift for my youngest son and his wife who now live in Tennessee. It was big and bulky and I wanted to do other things, so I kind of shoved it down on the floor near my Janome and left it there. I started other things.
(I do not know when I will get to see them again, so I guess I’m not feeling the pressure the quilt.)
But, I decided I wanted it off the floor and FINISHED. I had some tote bags sitting on top of it and wanted this pile gone. I figured it might be easier to finish up the quilt and then the bags and then I can put the strapping away! I’m kind of ready for that.
Double whammy.
Finish quilting this one with straight lines and get it out of my sewing room! Another project done and the quilt will be ready to head to the states.
No, I’m not going to show you the pile. Hopefully it will soon be completely gone!
I used an amazing large print bleeding hearts print that I have here in Poland for the backing. I had to piece it but worked hard at trying to match the print so you couldn’t see where I matched it. I figure this way they can have a reversible quilt.
Made Ya Look - also using low volume fabrics
To me the quilt is fine. It is actually interesting, if I can use the word - but only up close. From a distance the front just looks rather bland. There really is a lot to see, however, just like on my Made Ya Look quilt from my 2” strips and squares. Remember that one?
The pattern is from Lori Holt and this king size quilt used a lot of fat quarters. I think it was 50 or so. I really had to work hard to find this many different interesting low volume prints in my stash. But I did and am pleased.
I hope they enjoy it.
Because the back of the quilt is the only thing particularly distinctive about it, I gathered pink, black and green 2.5” strips from my 2.5” strips bags (remember how I cut up scraps every month?) and I made a nice scrappy binding in those three colors. I love it! This way when they flip it over and use the back as the top, the binding will show up nicely.
Now most of the fabrics in this quilt are NOT Lori Holt fabrics. They are everything else I have in my “low volume” section of my shelves.
I was thrilled to be able to use my fabrics - a whole bunch of different ones gotten at different places. Some of these are fabrics I’ve had from before we started our store. Some are from the store and some are from places we traveled throughout the USA where I might have picked up various things just because I wanted them.
So here are some close ups of the fabrics I used. It really is quite a variety, but this will give my DIL and son something to check out, won’t it?
As a quilt, the design of this one is not something I would normally make. I probably would have passed over this one with a nod as I passed it in the book had my daughter in law not mentioned that she liked it.
I know I’ve mentioned it before but I asked her to initial the quilts in a couple of my books so that I knew what kinds of things she likes.
I tend to like things with a bit more of a design, theme or overall plan. But for a quilt with fabrics with a lot going on, or if you just happen to love the fabric and don’t need a specific pattern such as stars or chains, etc to hold your interest, then this is a good pattern to have.
This is the 24th quilt in this series which I started back in 2024. I will continue this series for a while until I quit making Lori’s patterns.
Her latest book is a granny square crochet book, so naturally that isn’t a quilt book—so, no quilts in that one for me to make. I may only make a few quilts a year after this in her quilts, because at 31 tops finished by now, it averages 10 for each of 2024, 2025, and 2026. (I have another to show shortly…as of this blog post going live, it is only 30 tops/quilts finished.)
Thank you once again for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
