“Fat Quarter Flirt” - king size top finished

I finally turned and focused on this top and finished up the blocks yesterday and then pressed and put the top together today.

The blocks are big and it is possible that this one took more time to actually find and cut the pieces than it did to make the blocks.

I exaggerate.

But not by much.

My DIL, Jessica, told me she liked this quilt which is found in one of my Lori Holt books (Scrappiness is Happiness). I decided I needed to get a quick win this time since I’ve been back 3 weeks from the states now and feel like I’ve been treading water - and not actually making progress.

(Truthfully I have several quilts whose blocks are all made and I just need to get the tops together, but they aren’t done yet.)

So, I pushed forward on this.

Ok, just a second…This past week I did quilt my February charity quilts - I did 22, so that is for Feb plus 2 make up ones for January since I only finished 10 in January due to getting back on the 17th. I am trying to get 20 done in each month from Jan - June so I will be completely finished by mid June and not have that awful push I’ve done to myself the last two years by procrastinating.

I haven’t bound them yet, but they are all nicely trimmed and all the scraps are dealt with - meaning stacked up neatly. The batting scraps are all nicely in a bag and ready to give away. That’s a nice feeling. I’ll work on binding maybe next week or at least by the end of February.

Anyway, for this top, I dug through my low volume fabrics and just had fun picking fabrics. I was very loose in my definition of “low volume”.

I chose some Lori Holt fabrics with white backgrounds and then went to town choosing other fun prints that I have and cut them all up. For this one I needed 54 different fat quarters.

I have cut out one for a queen bed, but the pieces are sitting in a zipper bag on the staircase - that will probably be a summer piecing project - for us. I decided to cut ours out while I had the fabrics off the shelves as that was quite a project in itself - just getting them out, cutting them and then folding the leftovers and putting them away!

It’s big. The floor space just about didn’t contain it.

There is really going to be a lot to look at for my son and his wife, as they stare at all the different fabrics here.

I will do my best to quilt this one myself though I may not be able to fit it all on the long arm frame at once. I’m still thinking about this!

Here are some close ups of some of the fabrics included!

This is a biggie, by the way. It’s 108”x108”. I’m not sure yet how I will quilt it.

There are so many more - and I’m excited to give them a lot to look at!

My Lori Holt series looks like this so far:

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
