Charity Quilt Progress...Again

I will probably update this quite a few times but no more than once a week until I am all done quilting these. I spent quite a bit of time this week working on these!

Because I’m spending 4-6 hours a day working on these, I need to share my progress!

I started trimming “big time” and wanted to get caught up. I also wanted to get at least 60 quilted by the 5th of October.

I did take some a couple of days ago to separate the fabrics scraps from the batting scraps. I now have a bunch more fabric that needs to be trimmed up into strips..

See how it is a cycle?

I sorted the batting into bigger pieces perfect for hearts, and I got two bags great for stuffing things. I will look for someone to give those two bags to.

Here is where I am as of Monday, October7.

So far I’ve quilted 66 quilts and have trimmed 63.

I’ve got them all piled up nicely waiting for bindings.

I spent a litle while dumping my bag of mostly already made binding pieces and and sorted by color or type. I went with bright mixed scrappy, pastel/quiet mixed scrappy, and then various colors like blue, pink, brown, etc. I am planning on making all the bindings as scrappy - but try to color coordinate with the top of the quilt I am binding.

Once I am feeling a bit better about how much I have to do, I will start binding a few. At this point, I am not doing that, but I might start working on making 10 or so bindings at a time until I have a few made ahead of time so I can batch sew them without having to stop to make the bindings themselves. It helps incredibly.

I want to start binding when I am closer to finishing quilting the 120 - though I hope to start the “making binding process” this week. Most of these quilts are about 60x80-85”, so I may just go for about 310” of binding for each quilt.

I did bring more tops back from the church building so I can finish up these charity tops!

I can’t tell you how happy I am to have these bags of tops ready to go.

When I get done with my goal, I should go ahead and dig around in my boxes and bags at the church building and get a good idea of how many are waiting for me there. I do have quite a few tops that need to have borders added but haven’t felt the need to do them since I had so many ready to quilt tops.

So, while I am on the downhill slide of quilting them for this year, I am not yet “feeling as if I’m getting close to being done” which is mostly because I am not.

Mom said as I get older I should readjust my goals. :)

I told her that I just haven’t felt like working on charity quilts this year as I’ve been wanting to make some ‘fun quilts’ for myself, instead. But the time has come. If I am going to do them, I just have to get started and then work HARD on them so they don’t drag out ti lthe end of the year!

Thanks so much for reading here and for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
