Quilty Fun progress report
I know. I’m dragging making this quilt out on and on. But that’s exactly what I am doing. I simply didn’t have the focus to make a quilt like this all in a week or so. Sometimes making this kind of quilt just…takes more time than one with a horizontal layout. I’m sure it’s because there isn’t a lot of chain piecing involved or at least not as much as I’m used to when making a lot of blocks!
I’m constantly changing gears with this one and it makes for a slower quilt.
But that’s okay. I’m learning to cope with this one and am making some progress with the top.
I worked this time on the row of mittens.
I managed to finish those without much stress, so a different day I decided to tackle the row of leaves.
Now to me, these leaves look more like old fashioned Christmas light bulbs, but so be it. This is the way Lori Holt designed them. I didn’t use pink in the row, even though she used pink in her row. I kept to the colors of real leaves - so yellows/golds, oranges, reds, greens, browns.
I also put together a couple of the other rows I had made the blocks - specifically the houses and the stars. I then put together as many rows as I could.
I have yet to put the apples row together though the blocks are ready.
After today’s post, I have only 3 rows left - the tulips, the baskets and the flying geese. The idea of flying geese is making me feel ill so maybe I should attempt to start on them. I really enjoy the picture blocks, but that one … maybe I will change my mind Hopefully they will go smoothly. I’ll let you know.
This one is getting closer to being done but I’ve still not decided on my border.
I think I’ve been a little too “all over the place mentally lately” to make such a decision, even though it’s not that important in the big scheme of life.
The original pattern uses green gingham. I don’t really want to use a gingham of any kind.
I don’t have any green gingham here, and so won’t be using it - even though I haven’t cared for it that much anyway from the begining. I want to use something that isn’t a plaid.
There are too many seams in that border for me to like all the plaids in it.
So I’ll choose something that will be a little less obvious that I’m not matching fabric design lines. :) I’ve considered going scrappy but wonder if that if that would be too much. I suspect so.
So while I seem to be limping to the end of the finish line on this quilt, at least I’m trying to limp there and not collapse on the track!
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
