October 2025 strips cutting report
I didn’t have a lot of time to trim up this month but I did try to trim up at least a few fabrics once I got back from the USA. I had left a few things in a basket by the table and used those pieces first.
I’ve decided to save my Lori Holt small strips for strings - so if it is smaller than my 1.5” which I normally do not keep - I’m going to keep those Lori Holt fabrics until I get some string blocks made.
All Kaffe Fassett fabrics as strings made into half square triangles - I call it Zigzag.
Back a few years ago I made several string block quilts and kind of burned out on them. Since then I’ve pretty much avoided them (like the plague) but now I’ve kind of recovered from that experience!
Plus, I’ve received a couple of charity tops from Fran and her helper that are beautiful using strings blocks so I’m ready to do a few. I am still tossing most of the pieces that are less than 1.5” wide as I’ve just got so much fabric I want to use and working with tiny strings takes a lot of time!
Wait…. I think it was 2023 when I had these Kaffe Fassett strings and I made the tops shown to the left. I used anything that was bigger than 1/2” or so. I mean, some of these are TINY strips.
Sharpie is lying on the fabric so you can see the size of the pieces.
The following are the strings quilts I made back a few years ago. I really did like all but the second one.
My baskets of cut strips -
Here are my totals for October.
I told you it wasn’t much but in the last few days I did do some - these were pieces I found randomly sitting around that needed trimming up and some were leftover from my frenetic adding to borders to 16 charity tops a couple of days ago. It’s not a huge number. Hardly impressive.
2.5” - 1.32 lb.
2” - 0.22 lb.
1.5” - 0.44 lb.
And here is my table for how much since I started keeping track!
This might be a boring blog post :) so let me share with you a video I found that I might make with some of my white based 2.5” strips. I have a HUGE bag of them. It’s a free pattern by Moda and Sherri McConnell.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
