How am I doing with 2026 Charity tops?

When January 2026 comes, I want to be able to dive into the charity quilts and not wait til later in the year as I’ve done lately. It has gotten to me that I’ve been putting them off. I decided I didn’t want to do it in 2026. I am considering going back to making ten charity quilts a month which would then not leave me exhausted at the end of a marathon.

However, I really would like to have all 120 tops ready to go by December 31, 2025. I may or may not make it. I could work on 10 or 20 max at a time each month and make the goal much more reachable or be done by the end of June.

It is now late October and I’m just now, since July, been able to get back to what I call my fun quilts - the ones I do because I simply want to create and not just to give away. I may end up giving many of my more creative ones away, but I’m in a different mindset when I make them. I find them more fun!

So how am I doing when it comes to these tops for 2026?

Here is where I am on these projects.

I went to the long arm room and found 43 singles and a bunch more large ones.

I do have more Spiderman, Batman, and Micky Mouse panels I can use which would be incredibly popular.

I did have some more tops I had upstairs and spent today working on adding borders to a bunch of tops. So, I ended up with 29 more tops which haven’t made it down to the long arm room.

Here’s that picture. The tops are patiently waiting by the stairs to be taken down there by me.

I then have quite a few more larger tops - that are full or queen size tops. I know have at least 50 more of these in the room in the church building but I can’t get to the closet with them in it as there are over 200 quilts in there. So there’s that. I will change that with the Charity Quilt Give-away which is planned for November. I also have more bags and bags of tops that need to be added to.

But right here in my house are over 70 tops of the single size (ready to go). Then, at least 20 more larger ones.

I will tell you my plans for the larger ones later, once I have my plans figured out for 2026.

I do have a tentative plan, however.

I will not finish any of these until January, however.

I will work on filling up this shelf with tops and backings that are matched up, so ready to go.

That will be so helpful when getting ready to get started on these! It is always such a relief to have the the tops and backings matched up so that it is just a matter of picking off the next top to work on with no decisions!

(This is idealistic - and if I don’t make this goal, then I’m okay - this is a goal - but if I fall a bit short of having all 120 ready, I can deal with that.)

So there you are. This is what I’m doing to get ready for 2026 charity quilts.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
