Quilts of Valor Update and Deadline Extended Plus Quilter Appreciation Dates are set!
SPECIAL NOTE: Becky’s coming! She’ll be here on Sept. 18 (ONLY). (That’s another story for another day and important to tuck away when you get to the bottom of this post!)
We have been encouraging you all to participate in the Quilts of Valor Challenge all summer long with our goal of getting 80 or 90 quilts to Tammy, the local Quilts of Valor Chairman out of Lakeland.
Well, we found out that Tammy is the director for the entire state of Florida, or at least I think so, so it has become more important than ever that we meet our goal.
Some people have brought them in with the goal that they be designated to a specific person. Others have already been in contact with Tammy, and she knows where each quilt is to go, if it’s a specific donation. Thankfully, most have been given with no qualifications as to where they need to go, which is helpful in our quest of reaching our goal.
At the beginnning of the summer, I had made up special Quilts of Valor bundles which we encouraged you to purchase, with stunning fabrics that you could or could not choose to use. Each bundle had 6 full yards of fabric plus a panel. An awful lot of different panels were passed out so that the quilts would not all end up looking the same. You can see some sample bundles shown below and a partial picture of our mountain of amazing Northcott fabrics that I had to choose from in making the bundles.
You all jumped in and bought a lot of these, and we get back a beautiful variety of quilts. Take a look at some of these:
However, we need more! More! More!
We are well on the way, but we need at least 20 more quilts to be brought in by the end of this campaign to help to reach our summer challenge goal of at least 80 quilts to be donated to the QOV organization, so we are EXTENDING the final deadline until Tuesday, Sept. 16, to participate in our QOV Appreciation and Gift Giving Days on Sept. 18 and 20th here in our classroom.
This would include receiving anything that has been mailed to us.
We have been collecting amazing “THANK YOU” gifts all summer long. One of our voluntary team members has been contacting companies that are connected with quilting and has gotten us a whole lot of super nice gifts.
These things range from irons to quilting books, to fat quarter bundles to jelly rolls, and batting, to patterns to clappers and lots, lots more. These pictures are a TINY representation of some of the items we have to give away.
On Thursday and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Kathryn will be down in our Sewin’ Shop and helping and encouraging you on in your opportunity to pick out your thank you gifts from all the beauties that have been given to us. (Becky is in town on the 18th only, so if you come in on that date, you can see her, if you can find her!!)
This is how it works
Each person who gives us a qualifying quilt (through Sept. 16), that we can pass on to Tammy at the QOV Organization, will be awarded a specified number of points. Each of the gifts will be given a point value. So, for absolutely ZERO dollars, and just redeeming your points, you can walk away with beautiful gifts. Of course, the store will be open those days, so you can shop before or after you pick up your gift goodies.
And yes, if you make 2, you’ll get double the points. After all, it was double the work, and double the quilting, and we’ll have double the recipients we can help.
If you live far away, we’ll try to do a live feed and show you pictures or something, so you can pick out your gift(s). If you want us to pick you out something nice and mail it to you, we can do that, too.
I haven’t taken official pictures, but I showed some of our beautiful quilts that have been brought in so far.
Here are a few more. These are NOT all of them. We’ll capture pictures of all that we have before we pass them along to Tammy.
Thanks for all your hard work! We hope we can get about 20 more quilts in during the next 2 weeks. I know that mine is going to be one of those, so now we’re down to just 19!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store here!
