Found Project - “Big Wonky Blocks” Top finished
I wrote that I had found these blocks in my cleanup of that room right before my son came in with his family. Remember?
These?
I didn’t really realize how big they were when I showed these to you.
But I wanted to put them together today - they are 15” cut!
I had been gifted these old blocks and because each was a slightly different size, years ago now, I had decided to put them in a wonky setting and then trim to a size that is all the same. Apparently I chose 15” - probably that was the biggest I could get out of what I had done. I then put them away to finish up later. Well, “later” is here.
I decided I wanted to use a floral print that had a lot of white in it for the sashing - something old (ish) looking.
Then I wanted to find another floral print from my massive stash to make the border big enough to make it about 60”x80” so that it fits the size I use for my charity quilt singles.
And so I did.
I found this one for the sashing -
And this for the other border - It’s a Marcus print.
I did first cut my sashing strips to 2.5”x15”. I then pinned and made them fit. The edges on the blocks are a bit on the bias, so I was determined to make them work because they do stretch. I needed them the same for a top that would be okay to quilt. The fabrics of the original blocks is old and the fabric very soft and squishy, if I can describe it that way.
You can just tell it is old fabric.
When I quilt this one, I will quilt closely.
I have folded it now and will put it in my piles of tops to be combined with backings in my long arm room.
I consider it a win so far. When I get it this far - I know that the biggest part of the work is behind me - and next step will be to just get it finished for our charity quilt outreach! I am hoping someone will like it! (I’m sure they will!)
I hope to periodically be able to finish up these random blocks that I discovered recently and share them with you as I do. It is a relief to get these “older” projects finished!
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
