“Bright Stars” - Leftover Blocks from “Stars-A-Lot” and "Orbit"

Remember these?

These were leftover blocks from a quilt I made some American friends here in Poland. The leftover blocks got put aside and completely forgotten. I actually only had 7, but I quickly made 2 more blocks to match.

They were unearthed in my recent deep dive into my piles in my room where I had a lot “stuff”.

I will probably keep this quilt, finish it or take it to the states and donate it to someone who has been interested in our ministry here in Poland since it has so many Polish designs in the top. The design I have worked up is simple - something like this. I’m not going to make it difficult - but just want it finished. So many people here simply do not understand “lap size” quilts that I’m sure they would make it into a baby quilt. And it’s really not a baby quilt.

As I began, this is the approximate deign I had in mind with some of the fabrics I pulled that seemed to go well.

I ended up with this layout.

The print border needed to not be the last border, so I added that last one to be blue.

This will be a lap size - 66”x66”. I may keep it for myself to use at my computer. :) I often put one over me while I work at my computer, esp. during the winter, but not only.

Here is my final top.

I do think I would have liked this better with sashing between the stars.

BUT I had determined beforehand to NOT do it, as this way, there would be color upon color - because I usually do NOT do that. I usually use sashing to bring order.

So this quilt probably qualifies for what my daughter calls “Scrap Vomit”.

Oh well.

I will quilt it in something simple and it will definitely be a bright, happy lap quilt.

And the top is done - and that makes me very happy!

That print fabric is either a true feedsack fabric or a reproduction feedsack and it is loosely woven! I originally was going to leave it as the final border, but it was just too loosely woven to leave as my final fabric - so I went ahead and put that blue border on.

Do I like this? It’s okay, but as I said, I wish now I had put sashing between the blocks as it seems really squished together in the middle.

Here are the two quilts I originally made and these were leftover blocks from them. I called the first one “Stars a Lot” and the second one “Orbit”. Both are free patterns on the free patterns page. If you click on the picture, it should take you to the free pattern.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!

(Oh, and since I’ve already written two patterns for these star blocks, I won’t be writing up this one - as it is simply the blocks put side by side plus borders with corner blocks.)
