End of Week 4+ Charity quilting

This is my last post about all this quilting even though I will be finishing up all the washing and photographing until I am finished.

You will see them, 10 at a time just like normal - but later.

I was able to finish binding all 120 of the quilts - trying to finish 10 a day every day and on Friday, I did finish 30 total though I had 20 of them half done (binding sewn on on one side).

I originally planned to finish on Saturday but then Friday at lunchtime just thought, “What if I go ahead and just sew that other half (of 20) on this afternoon - then I will have Saturday free! (We had some special things planned for Sunday, so I really needed that.)

So I decided to commit to doing 5 at a time. After I finished 5, I decided if I wanted to keep going or not. I just kept going. Like the horse going home to the barn at the end of the day, I just kept on going.

I kept adding to these piles until I couldn’t fit them under my counter anymore.

And I can’t explain how relieved I feel about it.

I have spent my days and evenings. For the month of August, I’ve been getting up EARLY and trying to get to work by 7 am on this project. yes, 7 am. That’s crazy, IMO.

But I needed to get these done and I really can’t wait to do them later this year. I want to have a give-away in November and we have to go to the states for some missions conferences between now and then. There isn’t a lot of time I will have to finish these up if I didn’t push myself very hard. That’s why I did it.

It was either push myself or give up on my goal for the year 2025. I decided to push myself.

And yes, I’m tired.

I finished all 120 quilts at just before 7 pm on Friday, August 29, 2025. That was my mom’s 93rd birthday, as well.

What I did do when working on these was to sew one side of the bindings of 10 (or more) on - which included making any needed binding—and then putting on the label and binding. Before that, however, I finished up with the second half of the binding by turning the binding over to the top and stitching it down which I had prepared the day before.

Here is a picture of a pile of quilts with one side sewn on.

So now that huge pile of quilts that was in the corner of my living room is gone. Completely.

My Saturday delivery to the church. I was by myself. I needed the space in my van or I would have just waited until Sunday to take them on over. However, I needed to pick up a couple of people on Sunday morning and one of them has a walker, so I need the space in the back of the van for the walker plus food for our special dinner together. Our “special” dinner was - we were celebrating the children going back to school on September 1. :)

I took 30 into the church building by myself on Saturday and some men took them upstairs to my storage room on Sunday. It’s taking them upstairs that I dislike so much as the stairs are curved. Naturally it is all easier with help.

So, now I will spare you further updates about charity quilting for now. I will be sharing the individual quilts in further blog posts - but later - spread out in September and October, but 10 at a time.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
