My Final Tally of 9 patches for the Edyta Challenge

I want to enter the 9 patch challenge that Edyta Sitar had for the summer. I made quite a few of them back in July - and now I need to enter the contest.

So, I will go back to the blog and check to make sure I follow all the requirements and enter.

We had until September 2 to enter. Because I didn’t trust myself to remember on Monday night to do it, I went ahead and sent the email on August 31.

It’s just a fun little thing. There is probably a 0.1% chance of anyone winning, but you actually win anyway, because you have some finished 9 patches that can be used in quilts!

I really enjoy making them - but will admit that I struggled in August as I’ve been flat out busy with all the charity quilting. I’m certainly not going to bump charity quilting, which is very, very high on my priority list to try to win something I don’t need. I just like her fabric combinations.

I probably really should study more of Edyta’s fabric combinations so that I can understand better how she does it. Every quilt Edyta makes I love. Well, almost. She has a lot of applique, which is amazing to look at, but I’m not sure it’s my thing. Maybe if I did more, it would grow on me. I know I love looking at it!

I ended up with this number of blocks:

77 +20+ 251+67= 415

Since I have decided that it was more important to do my clean up and other projects than it was to make more 9 patches for the sake of making 9 patches, I am just sending this number in. I actually think I put together about 10 more blocks after I did a count back in July, but since my sewing room is in chaos, I need to just enter this - so I’ll just go back to what I had in July. I’m entering 451 finished 9 patches in the summer.

However, I wanted to point out that Edyta’s Mystery 2025 has started.

She has now shared 2 blocks - the first one is a sort of economy block or square in a square.

I am going to do this one, but I may have to catch back up once I get back from the states. This will go for 9 weeks, so a nice long time.

I’m debating going back in time and attempting one of her older mysteries and seeing if I can do it. Here are the ones still on the blog at laundrybasketquilts.com. I’m most interested in the last one here which was 2023. Just go to the archives. These do not look like quilts that are quick and easy - but I know at least some of you are up for the challenge!

It is so different from any other types of mysteries that are currently running that I’m aware of, that is, that I’m intrigued. Of course, by doing a mystery quilt afterwards, it’s not a mystery, is it?

I want to follow some examples of her collections and see if I can come up with a similar look. She uses a lot of golden undertones along with cream. So, I’d like to do it in something similar but just choosing from what I have on my shelves. If you would like to get some of Edyta’s less expensive fabrics, you can search here on our website for Laundry Basket Quilts. You can also look for Edyta Sitar. We have some for only $6.99/yard!

But then you can also search for Andover for some different designers, but possibly some coordinating types of fabrics. Definitely check them out!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.f

Rachael does have some Edyta fabrics on the website, and certainly if you search for Andover, you will also find more of this type of fabric. It’s so pretty!

Her layout is going to be like this - so this year’s a very do-able quilt. We will be plugging blocks into a grid. I think this will be fun, actually, and quite different from most mysteries I’ve seen. Each of these grids represents a 6.5” block.
