"Linked Up"

At my mom’s house

I made the top a while ago and it looked like this. I was not totally happy with it and certainly choosing directional fabrics with strong lines was not the best idea.

You see, I make plenty of mistakes when I make my tops. I can just list them off over and over! But I shouldn’t do that. I think it is quite obvious when I do something dumb like that.

I used some fat quarters that we had called Beach Therapy and surrounded all of those fabrics with the coral blender that we have which seems so absolutely practical!

This is a design I made after following a video by Misty from Missour Star Quilt Co’s You Tube channel. Just do a search for it. I didn’t get their PDF as I had enough info so that I could just take notes and draw it up for myself - from the video.

It’s a little quilt and I used poly batting so it didn’t hang down as straight as I would have hoped. Heavy cotton batting helps quilts hang down straight. Big quilts do as well!

But as I mentioned when I first made this one, I didn’t do well with my choice of fabrics with this design.

But it is now done. I didn’t feel like chasing the perfect weather for a fantastic picture either. I have found that when I put more of myself into the piecing, I do try a bit harder to get great photos. :) I wonder why.

I do think it does scream “beachy” and “surf” and “tropical”. For that I like it, in spite of the issues at my choices.

I used black on the binding since I couldn’t decide which color to use otherwise..

I suppose now I just don’t know what to do with it. Maybe I’ll throw it on my couch through the summer. But it’s not summer yet, so there’s that.

I don’t make that many smaller quilts unless I have a plan or really want it (like the Lori Holt smaller quilts I’ve made - I love them so much and want to keep them). I made this one SIMPLY because I wanted to use this beautiful Beach Dreams fabric. I should have just chosen different fabrics for this design.

This design is best in a blender or at least a non directional print.

This one was one of the last ones I quilted - I suppose I kept pushing it down the line to quilt because I didn’t really like it as much as I thought I did. :) LOL

I still have some of this fabric.

I’ll come up with something better. I also made this quilt on the right with this fabric and didn’t like that version either. I just didn’t choose wisely on that one either as the design of the stars didn’t show up well. I should have saved the coral for ALL the corner stars.

But anyway, I STILL love the fabrics! Next time around I’ll get it figured out. I’ll probably do something uber simple like cut squares and frame out the interesting prints and use the others as maybe pinwheels or 9 patches.

Here is the quilt roll:

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
