Cultural: We got our very first American type of fast food restaurant - KFC

Warning - this post is nothing about quilting!

They had the grand opening today at noon!

KFC offered 300 buckets of chicken for 1 zl each - there were quite a few people standing in line well before 10 am.  Well, actually it was 15 hot wings - not really that big of a deal, actually, IMO.

My daughter rode by here on her bike going to the ice rink about 10 am. There was a line already. (It was to open at noon).

This place is about 1.5 miles from our house and yes, we are delighted! No, we didn't go today.

This bucket isn't that huge bucket of chicken that you are thinking of. It's a much smaller one - one that holds 15 hot wings and normally sells for about 25 zl or $7.17 but today was only $0.28 for the first 300.

The weather was nice - for December - and people have off from school.  KFC should have been ready for such an onslaught. I could have told them the line would be incredible - I hope they were prepared for such a mass of people.

What we have found is that KFC tends to be nicer overseas than in the states. They offer meals that are tasty - but sadly, they don't offer that nice bucket of 15 or 21 pieces of chicken like in the states.

They offer a bucket with strips and hot wings - but they don't offer a nice mix of whole pieces of chicken like our family used to get periodically or sometimes people would bring to a church dinner when they didn't feel like or have time to cook.

Today's bucket "promo" was only hot wings.

These photos were taken at about 12:21 pm - so 21 minutes after the doors opened.

There were people all over the place. Traffic was backed up for a mile or two around it.  I guess we live in a pretty quiet area, huh?  But to be honest, people are very excited about this - I know we are and from what I've heard about young people in the area, they are ecstatic!  It will be nice to have a clean and quiet and modern place to actually "meet up" with people and sit and talk if you want to. Til now, I've not been comfortable in any place that exists.  I like the idea that we will have good parking and that it will be close!

A video!

Here's a video that a reporter shot today of the actual grand opening - when they opened the doors!  I hope that the workers were all experienced KFC workers because it was a truly a madhouse!  If you take a couple of minutes to get the idea of how many people were you, you will better understand the level of excitement that we are all feeling today!

Oh, and lest you think I meant the first in Poland, that's not the case - it's just the first that is close to our house - as there aren't that many American fast food restaurants  on our side of the Vistula River and hardly any within 15 min. And as dense as a city like Warsaw is, that shows a major lack, IMO.  They've built up every other part of Warsaw except ours. We are on the southeast side of the big city.

Don't forget - until midnight January 1, my sis is offering an "End of the year Promo" where you will get 1 yard of solid FREE for every $25 of merchandise you buy from the quiltedtwins.com website.  Be sure to take some time and order! You will be glad!
