"Linkin' Log Cabin"
All done.
This is a simple log cabin block with a bit of a twist. The “twist” is that I used two different blocks and one of the blocks has ‘logs’ that are different widths.
I explained the layout here…so I don’t need to explain it again.
Wow. I can’t believe it was way back in February already! My how time has flown!
I quilted it with a simple loop design.
I decided that getting this one done was better than letting it sit sandwiched, but unquilted because I didn’t know what to do.
It had been sandwiched for some time now. But I finally decided to go with the loop design which is probably the easiest free motion quilting design for me currently. Because of that, there is a bit of poof to the quilt - which I also like. It seems like it would be a cuddly and warm quilt because of the puffiness of the batting by not quilting it very densely.
Here you can see the quilt roll. Compared to a quilt that is made with a thin cotton batting and then quilted densely, this one is downright “chubby”.
The strobing effect that happened because I used that fabric that had sections of lighter and darker on the outer logs of some of the blocks was a total accident. I had no idea that would happen. It’s kind of cool, though.
A happy accident!
I also found it interesting how in the outdoor lighting you can see the variety of whites/creams I used. Inside my house, those variations do not look nearly as stark.

Here maybe you can see some of the greens I am using. I did try to make the different rounds of the uneven logs log cabin block light/dark/light, etc.
Overall, I am pleased with how this one looks.
At least it is “different” from the rest.
However, it is not one of my favorite of this series. I am glad I went ahead and made this layout, but the more traditional layout - this one shown on the left - is one I kind of wish I had enough greens to make as well. Of course, it’s not the exact same number of blocks of each type, but close.
I hope you enjoy this quilt - I found the layout intriguing. I ended up settling on making this one because I put three layouts up to the Facebook group to choose and this one was chosen with the most votes. Interestingly enough, this was the FIRST one I designed. It was after I figured I’d make THIS one that I began to have second thoughts and came up with two other layouts.
But the group encouraged me to go with my first choice. And so I did.
