End of Year 2020 summary

This year was different for me - nothing new there, huh? It’s been a mighty “different” year for the rest of the world as well - but here’s a summary of what happened around here related to quilting!

As a review -

  • This year was the first year I did a Mystery Quilt. This is what it looked like - the reveal was in early May, 2020.

  • I was able to finish, with the help of literally dozens (probably- actually I’m not sure how many of you helped with all the charity tops!) of you all, 193 quilts.

Here are where most of the 129 charity quilts I’ve finished are located at the moment. We’ll be giving them away in 2021, mostly. Unless I hear of needs. I just heard of one - a young lady with 3 siblings - in the Ukraine. I’ll give them to her to g…

Here are where most of the 129 charity quilts I’ve finished are located at the moment. We’ll be giving them away in 2021, mostly. Unless I hear of needs. I just heard of one - a young lady with 3 siblings - in the Ukraine. I’ll give them to her to get to her sisters/brother.

It’s not really as great as it sounds since 129 of them were charity quilts. It’s not a race - I know that. It’s not a contest - I know that. I keep these records to help myself keep track - not to try to compare to anyone else. Mostly it is to compare with myself from other years and help me know exactly what I did do this year. (Plus, I’m a bit upset with myself that I didn’t keep better records and pictures earlier in my quilting life.)

I felt good about what I got done this year, in spite of a month long trip to the USA, a week of being quite sick in February and 2 weeks in September where I got nothing done. I was able to get a lot of small quilts done and a lot of “necessary” quilts done and finished up and off my radar. And that felt mighty fine! And even though the numbers are “higher” for this year, the individual quilts I finished weren’t as big overall - so I know in myself, that I didn’t finish as much. But that’s how life works.

This is what my summary shot looks like:

  • Quilted Twins got a different website which, if I could learn to use it (from the insiders POV, that is), would be amazing (for me, anyway)!

  • I wrote quite a few patterns. I’m not sure how many this year —I should know. I do not.

  • In all that sewing - I did finish the Geometrics series of 16 quilts, started an Upcycled Greens series and finished up several more in each of the 2” and 2.5” strips series of quilts.

  • Rachael helped me when I was weak - and other times, too, but I managed to get a blog post up every day except two or three of the days when I was quite sick in September. I still feel a bit like a failure in that - but I see no point in going back and filling in those days since no one would look at them. :)

  • I cut up scraps and strips - lots of them. This is where that ended up. I now have a new supply of scraps to cut up.

  • Our quilt give-away in March turned out to be less than amazing. Yeah.

Timing is everything. I had decided to do it, passed out the coupons, and placed them in the social services office and THEN the gov’t came down with demands of masks, social distancing and “limited contact” due to COVID-19. As a result, it was a far cry from what I had hoped. In spite of that, we eventually managed to give away all but 25 of the quilts I had had at that time. Included in that was about 30 to a school for deaf children right here in our area.

Leftovers from that give away-day. After that main give-away, I still met people individually at the building to give them quilts. I also took quite a few to the deaf school. I got the pile down to 25. (Then I added back to it again!)

And that’s about it when it comes to measurable goals related to quilting!!!

I appreciate you all so much. You are encouraging, engaging, and help me so much when it comes to naming quilts and other sometimes crazy things I get involved in!
