"Long-Arm Room Reno" - Day 6 - Tile and Paint!

Back at it.

The room isn’t done yet, but we need to get on with the progress. Today the men focused on sanding the ceiling and walls and working on tile.

Well, actually my husband had sanded the ceiling yesterday so we could get on with the progress when Artur came today. It’s been a few days since anyone worked in the room exclusively. (There was a break in real life between days 5 and 6.)

So here is the room at the beginning of the day - as Mike had sanded the ceiling and sanded and sanded. :)

Mike got a tarp and put it down before he sanded and sanded (since Artur hasn’t been here for a few days).

The first thing Artur did was work on painting the ceiling - with white of course.

By lunchtime, he had painted the ceiling and had a good start on painting the walls. My husband has ordered some paint but not all of it has come, so we decided to paint a first coat of white - something we already have and saving the two liters of nicer paint for the final coat - that will be an “almost white”. I suppose I could have gone crazy with color, but I’ve opted to be simple. The room isn’t all that big and a darker color would make the space make me feel too claustrophic.

Ceiling is all painted

Then, later in the day, I went downstairs to check on the progress and he was finished painting the first primer coat on the walls and started on the tile - I think he wants to finish that up by the end of the day.

Once the tile is all down, we just have the final painting of the walls and putting in grout in the tile.

My husband will finish up the electrical by putting in the lights and fixtures, so Artur will have done what we wanted done!

At the end of the day - here is what it looks like -

That white “thing” in the room is a dehumidifier. Mike bought it last summer and we use it at night down in this basement. it is one of the things that made me willing to put a machine like this down there. Before that, in my opinion, the basement was too damp for me to want to put it there. Since we started using this at night - during our cheap time - it has taken all of the ‘damp smell’ out of the basement and make sit quite pleasant to be down there.

The plan for tomorrow is to paint the walls and ceiling and then grout the tile floor!

Getting close to the end!!! How exciting is that?

When the room is ready, THEN I can actually get a machine - but only after I hear that it’s a positive on the new residency permit.

The date they gave us for an answer on the permit is Jan. 31 - but we’ll see. The gov’t is notoriously slow and often runs behind their own schedule.

But I can start to do more intensive research as long as I have a room.

I absolutely could NOT buy a machine before as I had no room for one anywhere. All the advice I had seen about that scenario was to make sure your space is ready BEFORE you get one as it is too difficult to try to work around one if you need to remodel.

Made sense to me.

I’ll keep you posted!

Thanks for coming along on my journey with me!
