May 2022 Strips report

I am a little behind on this - but I did want to let you know about strips for May, 2022.

I did manage to trim up some fabric during this month! Can you believe it?

Let me share with you my totals. I didn’t do a LOT - but I did some.

I was focusing on cutting these into 2.5” strips because I want to make some quilts this year with some strips - so I just decided to do those for a while.

So here are my totals. They are “less than impressive.”

2.5” - 10.14 lbs.

2” - 0.33 lb. (not even one lb.)

1.5” - 0.55 lb. (not even a whole lb.)

This makes my totals for the year 2022 this.

And while these are modest gains (except for the 2.5”) at least I did a little tiny bit! I feel like I’m on the road to recovery! :) Truthfully, I’ve not had a lot to cut up, but in going through my sewing room once again, I did find some bags of just ‘misc. sized pieces’ that could be cut into strips. So I can work on those.

I will try very hard to get more than this done in June. I do have a couple of smallish bags to work from - so the problem hasn’t been things to cut - but in truth, my table has been busy with company and other things - so not as much room to work (by myself) and I guess I just feel funny doing this with company around. I prefer to do this when alone and not late at night when I’m tired.

Here’s the totals since I’ve been keeping track.

If you are new to reading here- well, back a few years ago I started cutting my scraps into strips of these three sizes - and if I found I needed pieces from other sizes, well, I almost always have more scraps that are awaiting cutting - so I can pull from those to make up the rest of the quilt’s pieces that are larger. This whole process has been the inspiration of my 2” series of quilts (about 80) and my 2.5” series which is much more modest. I have done only a couple of ones using the 1.5” strips - but I do pull from them to use in other things.

I’ll show you here a few quilts I’ve made with these - where I literally pulled from the bags of already cut up strips to make these quilts - looking for the colors as needed by the pattern I had worked up on the Electric Quilt program.

These use primarily 2” strips - and you can click on the link shown to get the free pattern if interested.

When you make a quilt like this - from cut up strips that were from your leftovers from other projects - or just a collection of small pieces possibly given to you, it feels like you are making a ‘free quilt’. It’s probably because you didn’t actually just then go to buy fabric but even more so (possibly) because you are using fabric others at times throw away (probably not my readers, however!). However, we know those scraps aren’t actually free - they cost you (or someone) money. Might as well use them!

Anyway - that’s the modest strips report from May. Have a great day! Thanks for coming along with this journey of mine from here in Poland.
