I Know you want to see fabrics - H+H Conference, Day 3

The H&H Conference was a huge yarn fest! That’s how I like to describe it.

However, interspersed between the yarn dealers, were a few of our classic fabric friends! I attempted to get pictures of these amazing booths so that you could enjoy them, too.

However, I was reviewing the booths from Houston, and these few booths were “nuttin” compared to the beauty of Houston.

Yes, each booth was awesome, but I think I counted 8 to 10 fabric dealers that we recognized. There was one dealer who was proud of the fact that she produced, printed and sold her own fabrics, and had no distributors. I did not even take a picture or look at her fabrics, since we’re in Florida, and she’s in California. That’s a long haul when it comes to shipping costs. Sometimes it’s best not to look at things that you know you can’t or won’t buy!

I stopped and visited with MODA, the home of our ever popular Grunge Fabrics.

This beautiful young thing is Sallie Tomato herself. I can’t even begin to tell you that I had imagined someone about 68 years old, wizzened with age, coming up with all of those amazing bag and cork patterns. I was thrilled to be able to get a book signed (for free.)

At the MODA booth, I got a book signed by “Sallie Tomato” herself. Sallie Tomato is a company primarily known for cork and bags.

We stopped to all the Jaftex booths, stood by Kaffe, and got pictures. We chatted with the Fabric Editions booth, and expressed how grateful we were to be able to order from them. We do have a huge order coming in from them sometime in July already. I had no need to sit down and waste their time!


Northcott Fabrics was well represented with a booth that also housed FIGO fabrics and Patrick Lose.

Hoffman Fabrics was amazing. They told me they’ve been around for over 90 years. I had no idea. They showed me one of their new lines. Since it looks like a Florida line, I’m thinking I ordered it a while ago! (It’s hard to remember sometimes.)

I stopped and looked through the catalogs of Clothworks and the World of SusyB and left them with an order, which, by the way, one week later they’ve already shipped some of to us! I hope you love the Sloane the Snail quilt, as I’m going to make up those kits!

We met the owner of Camelot fabrics and asked him about printing up some much needed fabric that is vacant in the industry. He said he’d look into it. Not mentioning it here, lest it never come to fruition. One never knows what might be problematic for a printer/distributor.

We met with Andover Fabrics, since I’d never met their big whigs. There is where we saw the new Pickleball Pattern, which we will be able to order come October, from ByAnnie. Others will be THRILLED to know that I broke down and ordered DIMPLES. The bad thing is that the price point is high, but at least we can get them!

We stopped in to see Robert Kaufman, since I had had troubles placing orders before, and we settled that all up, and got a new order placed with them, to get things rolling!

The two guys who came in from California for Wilmington Prints were amazing! You’ll find more Dry Brush in the future because of them!

Wilmington Fabrics was amazing, and even though they’re in California, the two guys there were helpful in finding ways to help us save on shipping.

The only major player that we did not meet with, as far as I could tell, was Maywood Studios. That was because they are a part of Schenk Distributing, out of the far West. I did not feel up to signing up for yet ANOTHER distributor, and have yet another rep come to see me. And one of those is connected to Kimberbell, and though I’d love to carry them, I simply don’t have space.

It’s probably a fabulous thing that these were not all there. It gets very, very incredibly difficult to see it all. I still did not stop at all the booths I wanted to see.

But on the next blog that I get to write, I’ll tell you about the NON-fabric booths that we saw, like cool bag companies, rulers, supplies, lights, handles and stain removers. It all sounds dull, but I promise you, it is not! The only two problems are lack of space and lack of money. I could EASILY have spent a half million dollars there, as there was just that much beautiful stuff!
