"Florida Trek" - an All Florida Shop Hop 2024 fabric kit
Today we are introducing the fabric bundle for Florida Trek.
This quilt is found in the All Florida Shop Hop Magazine for 2024 and was designed by me in combination with Rachael and the other ladies in the Shop. It was one of those back and forth things that we continued to polish until we were happy with it.
This quilt shows off all of the main feature fabrics in the All Florida Shop Hop 2024 line offered by Quilting Treasures.
This quilt finishes at 50-1/2”x71-1/2”.
The simplicity is the beauty of this quilt.
When I first showed it to them I wondered if they “got it” where I started with the darkest of the blues, then I went up the quilt as if going from the bottom of the sea to the sky until the topmost fabric is the birds/sky print. (They did.)
It features piecing of the word FLORIDA and a few appliqued footprints. You can put as many or as few as you want on the top - that’s the beauty of it.
We also have an alternate border if you want to incorporate the little squares you will get as you travel from shop to shop around the state.
We chose to do a pieced FLORIDA instead of appliqued, because I’m not really known for doing much applique at all. Obviously if a person wanted to put the letters on with applique instead, it would work. Rachael is working on getting the die to cut the F L O R I D A, but that will be a separate purchase down the road.
The quilting was done by Beth and Doug Martin from Zephyrhills, FL. Rachael actually made this quilt top - aren’t we proud of her? I am.
This particular bundle pack is ONLY the fabric needed for the quilt as shown.
Note: The pattern is in the magazine!
If you want to make the alternate border, just use the squares you will get as you go from store to store and space them out with the green fabric. For us, that would make the best “Florida Trek” - with the whole theme being that you trekked all around Florida to those stores and possibly saw all these things which are on the fabrics as you went. The idea originally was to put the footprints through and over the squares, like you were walking through the stores, but we were unable to get the squares in time to do that.
Isn’t the quilting just perfect on this? I think so!
