My 2.5" collection of strips

This is why I’m going to be getting serious about making my 2.5” strips series of tops MUCH bigger.

Just check it out!

Here are my bags of 2.5” strips which I currently have already cut.

There are 11 LARGE bags here (30 gallon) plus many smaller ones in the front.

This is an enormous collection of strips. Yes, it’s about time I started using them up - and fast. It is crazy how many I have. I’m not complaining- I’m actually excited about them, in truth. I’m glad to have finally pulled them all out in one place to actually evaluate what all I have. It’s what I’ve done traditionally when I really got series about using them up (my Upcycled Blues and Upcycled Green series).

So far my series of 2.5” quilts looks like this:

There are quite a few large BAGS here. If you have been following me, you can see that so far, since I’ve been keeping track of my 2.5” strips, I have cut 414 lbs. of these strips!

But I’ve never pulled all of these out in one place and gotten a good view.

I did make a short video for you…only a few seconds, but I explain what I’ve got here.

I’ve known I had a lot because they have been taking a lot of space in our guest room and each month I’m getting more and more in there. It’s time for the collection of strips to “diminish”. :) I’ve wanted to make more patterns for these, anyway, because this is the size of strips are commonly called “Jelly Rolls”.

So…now that I have come face to face with the reality of my 2.5” strips - I will certainly begin to do something about them! It’s time to see this so-called collection get whittled down to a more reasonable amount. This is big. Really big!

Lest some of you worry - I do have several ideas already percolating around, but I tend to get the most inspiration from seeing what I have to work with. Thankfully I have black, charcoal, white and a cream/cappuccino - all solids that will work great with these.

So now you know.

Currently I’m working on finishing up the tops shown above that are just tops and not quilted yet. I want to get them all quilted up and move on to making more of these tops AND at the same time finish quilting all the rest of my Upycled Greens tops.

Not long ago I was listening to a podcast and the person was talking about things seniors should watch out for. One of them was focusing on what is good for us - for our well-being. I had already one of my goals to either quilt 50 quilts or get caught up with my own quilts. And that stands. I’ve been trying to quilt one a day during the week (not on Sunday) here at the beginning of this year in order to see myself make more progress on my own tops. And I am beginning to see a difference. There’s a difference in my own psyche as well - with a plan to get these big queen sized tops done to the end.

Anyway…it’s all a big juggling game for me. But this pile of 2.5” strips is actually something to behold! :) LOL

This is a sobering picture - but also exhilarating. I want to work on maybe 50 bindings by color (a bunch of browns, pastels, etc) for the charity quilts to be finished later - from which I do use this size!

I’m determined to be on a roll….now…

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
