"Long Underwear" quilt by Lori Holt in process
I started this quilt a bit ago now - not a long time, but I’ve been thinking about this one for quite a while now. I started it a few weeks ago by dipping into the picture block—long underwear. I first made one before starting by cutting out 2 or more at a time til I had 12.
This one is from the book Prairie Home. I have now finished up the long underwear center, but still need to make the outer blocks. I have, however, started working on tho outer blocks, but just barely. I’ve been working on a bunch of various different tops, so it’s been a little of this and a little of that. Once again, I started by making one, then the rest of the first 8.
Once I had finished 8, I went ahead and finished all 12.
And now I’ve gotten all of the center finished.
For the background, I am just using a solid cream. I didn’t want to use a kind of busy print as each block would have had to be different and I thought it might actually take away from the cuteness of the blocks.
I haven’t added the cream first border outside this center. Then there will be blocks. And that’s pretty much all.
I totally had fun making these long johns. The only part of them that was actually difficult was the neckline. That was a bit fiddly.
But, I love them!
If you remember, I’ve made a couple other of fun quilts from Lori Holt - these are other clothing themed quilts from Lori Holt. Once finished, this will be number 4 with these interesting items of clothing made into quilt designs. I’m really enjoying these. Of the quilts below, only the middle one is completely Lori’s design as she wrote it. The first one - I wanted it bigger, so I added the inner blocks and then the wider blue border. Then the stockings one I wanted it more complete, so I added the red inner border and the outer corner blocks border with different colors for each side. I like how that one finished that top off.
I will keep you posted on this project. It is getting close to taking priority as I’ve been gradually working on those outer blocks - of which there are 30.
What happens is when I get close to finishing them up, I usually bump up that particular project to taking first place and put other things aside until I get that current top finished. That’s just how I roll. I suppose it gets to be like the horse going to the barn at the end of a run or walk away from home. :)
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
