A Week of “In Progress” Projects - #3 Praire Home quilt top
This particular design was the reason that I wanted this book. I just fell in love with it when I first saw it. I convinced Rachael to get the book. :) You can get yours here!
This one features a nice big literal log cabin. I have already made the house. I’m not really done with house quilts even though I’ve made several already and haven’t finished any in the last month or so. I do want to explore the idea further. A lot further, in fact. It’s just that sometimes when I do a lot of something all at once, I need a break.
This particular book has about 20+ quilts I want to make! Yes, there are that many.
I’ve already made two - Prairie Stockings and Prairie Crochet. Here are those. I did change Prairie Stockings a bit by adding the borders, but the other one is straight by the book.
So this would be number 3 in that book that I’ve started. It may NOT be that number that I finish, however, as it is pretty involved. I’m not rushing through it. I did see a video where someone started on this top. Let me share that one with you here.
Anyway, I’ve made the main part of the house. I’m not really thrilled with the look of the top of the quilt, though I may not change it, and the trees and birds and stars just seem a bit “thrown” up there after such a nice house and borders, etc. But, it won’t hurt me to make the blocks since I’ve not done them before (the birds, specifically).
Anyway, here’s the house.
I’ve also made the 30 log cabin scrappy blocks that will go around the top part of the top.
I will start on the bottom blocks, but I may revisit the quick method of makign those flying geese. I freely admit I don’t like making flying geese, but when I made them the ‘quick’ way ??, they turned out better than any other time I’ve made them, so I may vary from the book’s instructions on that and make them that way. I’ve only done them that way once, so I can’t even describe it properly, but if you know, you know.
Here are the log cabin scrappy blocks.
And that’s where I am on this project. I actually started this one a while ago now as well. I started with the house.
I am keeping it all in this bin.
I want to get going more on this top as I do love it. I will just start by picking out enough squares from my already cut 2.5” strips of my colorful fabrics for the centers of those star blocks and then just ‘start’ even at a snail’s pace.
I’ve learned that by making tiny little goals, I will eventually finish things up. I need to tackle some more things by doing this - in my sewing room. :) I have some projects just languishing.
Anyway, that’s where I am on this project.
It’s a sort of active project. I did just make those log cabin blocks, so I guess it is definitely an active project.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
