"Pretty Houses" - #8 in the Stephanie Slewinski series

Up until now, all the tops in this series have been queen size quilt tops.

However, with this one, I’ve changed to making a few smaller ones as I begin to run out of fabric.

I made every single house different from each other. It was a challenge as by this time, I’d started to not have so many different colors or pieces left. I was out of the rust except for a few random pieces - but nothing large.

I was also determined to see if I could use up some of that wavy print on two of the roofs and other various pieces as I could.

I had quite a bit of this gorgeous floral print on the border and just decided this was a great place to use it. I made it a nice wide border so I could appreciate the print to its fullest.

Other than what I just said, I am not sure what to say. The blocks are large—14”x14” finished. I had to add green grass on the bottom of the houses and none of that green was part of the line as I had pretty much used up the green I had had. I wanted to make a cool sashing and at first I was going to make the same one I made on the Show Off Quilt, but I really wanted something different. So I went with this stitched look.

Do I like this top?

I love it!

This top is 68”x85”. I’m considering trying to quilt it with a plush blanket on the back. I wish I had a cool print in this colorway to go on the back but I don’t, but they do sell soft blankets that would go.

 

Here are a few closeups of the houses and how I made them. I did put some shutters or maybe curtains on some of the windows. Some didn’t have any - just a plain rectangle.

The blocks actually went together quickly. It definitely took more time to plan and cut out each block than it did to sew it together. Well, maybe not.

This one is a beauty and I love it. I think I have others in my family who also love this color scheme. :)

This is just the next in the series of this group of fabrics. I’m writing this blog post after a full week of serious sewing on this project. I cut up the last of the scraps (I’ve not shown everything yet on the blog) to go into either the very last quilt top or to be used as binding. I’ll have to decide on that tomorrow.

I told my husband as much as I have enjoyed the project, I am very happy to see the last of this fabric cut up. I have a couple more tops to show you, and one more in pieces and the last one - which will be smaller - and which uses a solid navy background - but the fabric is already pretty much committed and in baggies.

Naturally as I go along the last couple of tops use smaller pieces and as such, more piecing and more time.

Anyway, here is the series so far. When I get all finished with it, I’ll write up or link patterns for these so you can make them if you wish.

I like every single one of these so far - some more than others. At the time of this writing, I’m starting to work on backing and am delighted that I can make so many backings. I’m eager to make a dent in my shelves full of fabric in my fabric room. I brought back so much fabric last year that I I’ve not had room (I also shipped some to myself). This has given me a little bit of cramped space and I’m ready to fix the problem. The best way is to use the fabric! So, the first 7 of these tops are approximately 100”x100” (some are 90”x100” or 97”x97”, so I’m rounding up). That will use a bit of fabric if I have to piece the backings. And that makes me happy.

I told my husband I’m ready to tackle some other things.

I’d like to make this - my husband got really excited for me to do it. Let me show you.

It’s a paper pieced Piper Cub airplane - found here.‍ ‍I’m kind of a paper piecing beginner - have done a LITTLE, so not a rank beginner, but don’t call myself advanced, or even intermediate either! but it will be worth it. I need to make his in orange and blue.
