Finishing UP an OLD-ish quilt
I was helping Rachael move out some quilts that were in one of the areas of the store where my quilts were stored. One of them wasn’t bound yet!!! Horrors!
I then remembered what happened. I had finished the quilt top and left it there in Florida to be long arm quilted by one of the two couples we use. They returned it to Rachael and she stuck it in my pile of quilts. I hadn’t seen it, and I had kind of forgotten about it. I think it was niggling at the corner of my mind that I had an unfinished quilt somewhere, but didn’t know where it was.
Anyway, it’s this one.
These are my pictures from when it was only a top. These are from April, 2023.
But now I’ve been able to bind it. Thankfully we had the teal inner border that I used on this one and was able to bind it in that.
The end result is really nice. I love it! Our long armers, Beth and Doug Martin, had sent me pictures, but I had forgotten about it!
But after binding it, I was able to take it outside to our back line area and get photos. I will not take this one back to Poland with me. I think the size is more of a full or large twin than my normal queen size quilt. It is about 75” wide by 90” long.
So, after binding, I went ahead and took pictures.
This one is made of leftover parts of fat quarters and other Florida themed (or tropical) fat quarters or less than that much, actually.
It is light and airy - and very fun to look at.
I remember how frustrated I was with it when I made it as I wanted to put some white space between the checkerboards and the stop border. However, now that it’s been a while and once I saw the quilt again, it is fine. I like how I was able to use the same fabric for the binding.
This one is so much nicer than the pictures. The only thing I regret is that I didn’t make it into a queen size. I’d like to give it away - but to whom? People I know have larger beds than a full! So, it’s a quandary.
So, enjoy. This is just to show you that there is nothing wrong with simple. This one is a simple checkerboards - and it is super nice!
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing an old finish! I did piece this one with strip piecing for the most part, btw. I didn’t usually cut 2.5” squares unless for some reason I had to because that’s the small piece of fabric I had left.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
