FINALLY - "Quilty Fun" top all finished!

Town Square - I gave it away - so I think I want to make another one - to keep

I started this top last summer. I talked about it on this blog the first time back on June 17, 2024, I believe. That was my first mention of the book, anyway, as I started working on the house blocks in the Town Square quilt.

While making that one, I made up extra blocks for the Row by Row quilt called Quilty Fun.

As I had mentioned before, I had seen at least two You Tubers mention that they had started the quilt top maybe as far back as 2017, but as of 2024, hadn’t finished it yet. I told you one time I found it tedious for some reason.

Maybe most row quilts are not for me ?? - but I was determined to finish this one.

And so I did.

I changed the border, as I mentioned last time I wrote about this top. I decided to just make it an “Around the Color Wheel with Lori Holt fabrics” type of border instead of all green gingham. The green gingham border simply did nothing for me and it made me want to keep putting off working on this one. Once I had decided to make it a completely scrappy border with no repeats, I got excited about it.

Oh - and one thing, as I was taking pictures, I noticed a problem. I groaned as I already had the whole thing together. But my policy is, if I see the mistake before it is quilted I will fix it. If it is afterwards…well, that’s just too bad. I thought, “How could I make such a stupid, simple mistake? Well, my other question was, “How come I hadn’t noticed it before?”

Oh, and i have to smile at my leaves border. Each time I see those leaves I think of the old fashioned Christmas light bulb - those big ones that used to be used on trees and outside decorating.

But I took the top to my sewing machine and after a few minutes with my trusty seam ripper, I dealt with the issue!

Then I took it back to my floor and took some more photos.

No drama. No questions like “Should I fix this or leave it to show that noone is perfect?”

I make enough mistakes unknowingly without leaving in one I am well aware of!

Overall, I’m glad I finished this one now.

I am also quite pleased with how it turned out and am very, very happy it is done. It isn’t every day I have a top I’ve been working on over a year. The relief was palpable.

If you did want this book - it is found here - we have it at Quilted Twins.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.

Oh - and I am ready to get back into finishing up some of my scrappy quilts. I also have a couple of designs I’m excited about trying to make.
