“Prairie Home” Quilt top finished

I did finally finish this top! I had made the log cabin blocks in the summer - in preparation for making this top. I had also made the house part itself before. I hadn’t made the trees or crows however, before.

I decided that this was one of those projects I really wanted to finish…already!

When I first saw this book, Prairie Home, and this quilt in the book, I knew I just had to make this top! Yes, I guess I can say I fell for it!

This is the third top I’ve made out of this book - the other ones are the Long Underwear and Prarie Crochet quilt.

I am sure there are at least 8 other quilts that I want to make out of this book - which would make a total of 11. Most of them aren’t quite as intense as this one. Truly, there may be even as many as 15 I’d like to make out of this book. We’ll see. I do want to make a strings quilt from the Lori Holt fabrics I have, and while there is one here in the book, so I guess I could count a string block from here, I made string block quilts before I’d even heard of Lori.

One thing I’d like to mention is that I made this top out of what I had of mostly Lori Holt fabrics. I did not use a certain line. (I used a black from my stash for the crows.) However, I just really went for bright and happy and didn’t try to match color for color each piece. I’ve heard that some people are doing that.

I did try to undertstand the philosophy behind the main house - log cabin - and keep to the colors she used. But when it came to the log cabin blocks - above and below the house - well, I just used what I had. I do now have quite a collection of her fabrics, and am keeping them in boxes. However, I am mixing freely with each other. Even her Christmas fabrics are so subtley Christmas that I don’t mind throwing them in with the others.

Here is a close up of the top part of the quilt, which is the most interesting, IMO.

Now I don’t know why Lori threw in a moon with crows on the top of a house. That one has mystified me, but I put it in anyway. I was truly tempted to leave it out but wasn’t sure what to put in its place instead. Since I’ve not done many of these big Lori Holt quilts yet, I figured I’d just do it like she said. I’m still not sure why it’s there, though! (My husband told me I could have just made the tree taller like the other side!)

Here is the other view.

This is yet another on in my series of making Lori Holt quilts which are shown below.

I have finished a lot of quilt tops that need to be finished - in fact, a high percentage of my unfinished quilt tops waiting to be quilted are now in this series! I have had so much fun making these tops. I am kind of in shock that I’m making such fun quilts! :)

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
