Old project - leftovers from “Make Mistakes” top finished

Here’s another little project uncovered from my dive into that room where so much was hiding. I had made this little bit from leftovers from the quilt Make Mistakes - a free quilt pattern from Art Gallery Fabrics I made a couple of years ago .

In other words, I already had these half square triangles put together in the 3x4 layout as shown below.

I had liked them and wanted to use them but couldn’t figure out anything neat to make with them.

I told myself this time, “Doesn’t matter if it isn’t great, let’s get something made that can be moved on into the charity top category. That way these will make their way out into the world and someone is bound to like the colors.”

So I did.

 
 
 

These were bonus triangles from that top. I’ve shown the first top I made for reference. I had worked hard to find these fabrics which I thought worked together, so I didn’t want to waste all that work.

It was 21”x28” at the point shown above.

I decided to use three of the fabrics I could still find in my stash, and just making the borders big enough borders to make it into a single sized charity quilt top.

So I did. Nothing fancy. Nothing extraordinary. I just wanted it used up in a pleasing way. I had these fabrics.

I did throw it into the EQ program with a center the size I had and worked from there to get the borders the size I wanted to get me to about 59”x80” or so.

Here’s what I ended up with. I also had to go with what I had with fabric. For example, I didn’t have as much of the coral as I did the other fabrics.

I had to smile at how the coral border blended into the coral triangles. I hadn’t planned for that, but for this top, it is fine. I think it could just be considered a mistake, but I’m not sorry at all that it happened. It is kind of quirky.

 
 

I wanted/needed the coral to be the first color as I wanted the print next to the blue as it seems to go better with it - and it is sort of the bridge fabric between the two prints/colors.

It is now folded up and on its way to the long arm room to be paired with a backing.

 

I’m so happy to be working my way through these little piddly projects - things that have just been hanging around and just being in my way! Actually this one wasn’t in my way—but I think somewhere in the back of my brain, it was still hanging around.
