Remember that GIFT quilt for the farmer's wife?

I cornered the girl last week at church who took the farm quilt to her mom. I point blank asked her if her mom liked it - as I hadn’t heard anything.

I didn’t know if I hadn’t heard anything due to the lack of internet, or just that Raya was too busy to write. She’s always so busy helping in the farm work that she stays exhausted when visiting her parents. I have no idea if her parents have internet as well.

She was a little chagrined, I think.

She said, with a bit of a smile that her mom LOVED the quilt.

 

Then she folded it up and put it in a closet. She said it was simply “too pretty to use”. She said she would save it for Raya.

Oh well. What can I say?

When you give a quilt, you really can’t control how they use it. Maybe some day she will pull it out of the closet and use it. I have another one set aside for her (I’ll show it here as Raya told me her mom loves red and flowers.)

and maybe that will actually help her - if she has a few quilts - maybe some of the mystery, or rather, fear, of using a quilt will go away. If you only have ONE, then you are terrified of ruining it. If you have a lot, like I do, you no longer fear that. Obviously why would I fear, anyway, since I made them. If they get hurt, I can either opt to let them become my husband’s furniture moving blankets, or fix them. Either way. but I guess if she has never had one before, this one is too nice to use.

Obviously I hope she changes her mind, but I can’t do that for her, can I?

What about you? Have you had anyone take a quilt you gave them and fold it up and put in a closet and say it is too beautiful to use?

Did they eventually pull it out and use it?

I just wanted to fill you in on the “rest of the story” at least for now.
