Working on those Charity Quilts!

I decided I was wasting a lot of time and it was time to get those charity quilts quilted!

So, here goes. I need to quilt 120 of these tops!

I have a few of them done already - am getting a slow start - but the cat is enjoying every one. I don’t know why cats like freshly quilted quilts, but ours sure seems to!

 

My first bolt of batting is going to be worked down very soon now. I am writing this on Monday evening and am planning on picking up another bolt on Tuesday.

This bolt of 50 meters of batting cost me $69.36 on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 here in Poland. That's $1.38/meter (39").  I make my quilts this size because this is the standard size in Poland for width for the singles.  Actually the batting is a little wider than my tops.

I do use poly batting because it is the only affordable option for me!

I am so glad to be getting going on these! I do get a nice sense of satisfaction when I start working on them and as they get done.

When I empty out that big green tub that is under the long arm, I will match up another 20 or so with their backings and get them ready to go. I definitely have the backings ready - or they could be ready in a few minutes!

I did make up a sheet that I’m going to use this year to keep me encouraged.

I will use a mark for each one when I

  • get it quilted

  • trimmed

  • bound/labeled

  • washed/photographed

- so hopefully when I’m done, all these spaces in the table will be all filled in.


So here goes. So far I’ve quilted a few. None are trimmed yet or anything else for that matter. I’m trying to remember if I had one leftover from last year that was all finished. If I do, and I can locate it here in my house, I will only have 119 of these to make up this year! :) Each year my goal is 120.

I’ve been asked about charity quilts by two different social workers already - in the summer, in fact, so I’m feeling the pressure!

I've just added the string and the markers to my long arm process. A long armer in FL shared that with me and I thought it was a great way to try to keep my tops straight as I have been having issues with wonky tops. I am finding it pretty low tech but I think, effective, so I'm happy. I'll find out more after I trim them all up.

I noticed that today (Monday) I did a lot and was feeling a bit of soreness. I am definitely not used to doing it, again (especially the pinning-on-the-leaders part) and I will be getting myself back in quilting shape!
